International 420 World Championship
The enchanting Ligurian scenery hosts sails from all over the world
The sailing season is back with the wind in its sails.
One of the most popular competitions for sailing enthusiasts returns to Marina degli Aregai. Acknowledged as one of the most famous regatta fields, the tourist port of Marina degli Aregai will be the protagonist in the panorama of boat competitions, more precisely of 420 class sailing boats. In July the "International 420 World Championship", which will last nine days, will be held in this evocative location.
The absolute protagonists will be the registered nations and their 420s. The latter is a particular type of sailing boat for two people, optimal to move among the first waves in the world of sailing boats and start competing with semi-professionals.
The competition is organised by Marina degli Aregai in collaboration with the Sanremo Yacht Club and every year it takes place in a tourist resort and marina where, thanks to favourable winds and breezes, water sports are practised. Last year's event was held in Portugal, in the town of Villamoura, and the winners were the Spanish in the Open category and the British in the Women's category. Italy's Calici and Gregori took silver, four points below the British.
In the 2021 championship with an all-Italian venue, over 200 boats competed with more than 500 participants from five continents. The programme agreement signed between the Liguria Region, the Municipality of Santo Stefano al Mare, the Sanremo Yacht Club and the Italian Sailing Federation has made it possible for the regatta to return to national waters. The last time was in 2016.
A not-to-be-missed event that docks in Italy and promises to be an important tourist showcase not only for the province of Imperia, but for all of our beloved Liguria.
